PETG Series Materials Break Through in Multiple Fields, Performance Advantages Open Up New Application Horizons

The core performance advantage of PETG series materials lies in their "combination of rigidity and flexibility" - they not only have rigidity close to PET (tensile strength 35-50MPa), but also have toughness superior to PC (elongation at break 150-300%), while also having excellent transparency (light transmittance 90-93%) and chemical stability. This comprehensive performance makes them have the potential to replace traditional materials in multiple fields.

The medical packaging field has become a high-end application breakthrough for PETG series materials. Medical-grade PETG materials have passed strict purity control (impurity content <0.1%) and biocompatibility tests, and can withstand 121℃ high-pressure steam sterilization and γ-ray sterilization, with a performance retention rate of more than 95% after sterilization, avoiding the problems of traditional PVC materials that are easy to age and release harmful substances after sterilization. In products such as syringe outer packaging, infusion bag ports, and medical device trays, PETG can be made into complex structures with good formability, and its transparent property is convenient for medical staff to observe the state of internal items. At present, it has occupied more than 15% of the global medical packaging market share.

The application in the architectural decoration field shows a rapid growth trend. PETG sheets can be made into products with a thickness of 0.5-20mm through extrusion molding process. Their surface hardness reaches HB level, scratch resistance is better than acrylic sheets, and there is no obvious deformation in the temperature range of -40℃ to 80℃, which is suitable for indoor decorative panels, display cabinet door panels and other scenarios. More importantly, PETG materials do not contain harmful substances such as formaldehyde and plasticizers, and do not release toxic gases when burned, which meets the green building standards. At present, the penetration rate in the European and American architectural decoration markets has exceeded 20%.

New progress has been made in the application exploration of the electronic components field. By adding flame retardants (such as phosphorus-based flame retardants) and antistatic agents, PETG materials can meet the UL94 V-0 flame retardant standard and the antistatic requirement of surface resistance 10⁸-10¹⁰Ω, which are used to manufacture electronic component housings, connector insulators and other products. Its excellent fluidity shortens the injection molding cycle to 30-60 seconds, and the dimensional accuracy after molding is high (tolerance ±0.05mm), which can meet the development needs of miniaturization and precision of electronic components. In addition, PETG materials have strong adhesion to inks and adhesives, which is convenient for subsequent printing and assembly, further improving product applicability.

The application in the packaging field continues to upgrade. In the food packaging field, the heat shrinkable film made of PETG has the characteristics of uniform shrinkage rate (transverse shrinkage rate 50-60%, longitudinal shrinkage rate 10-15%) and good sealing performance, which can be used for bottled beverage labels and fresh food skin packaging, and can be in direct contact with food, complying with food safety standards such as FDA and EU No.10/2011; in the cosmetic packaging field, relying on high gloss and chemical corrosion resistance, PETG can be made into transparent perfume bottles and emulsion bottles, and can realize complex shapes through injection blow molding integration process, improving product aesthetics. With the upgrading of consumption and the improvement of environmental protection requirements, the replacement space of PETG in the packaging field will be further expanded.
